As a restaurant on Flinders lane, we rely heavily on our corporate lunch-goers through the week, as well as those who are staying in the surrounding hotels or those attending gigs at the forum. The total lack of people in the city has now meant we have had to cut casual shifts completely and reduce the front of house team to just the two full-time venue managers between two venues. What was once a team of 13, is now down to just two. This has meant that I have lost all ability to make any money and before a lock-down has been put in place and has further prolonged the length of time that I will have to live without pay. Also, as a recent graduate, I am no longer on any Austudy or youth allowance benefits as I was in the process of finding a job in my studied industry. This means that I have barely any savings and will likely have to face the disastrous, snail-paced, bureaucratic rigmarole of Centrelink and just hope I receive some money in time before I get evicted for not being able to pay my rent.
