I work(ed) at the busiest restaurant in Melbourne. Every night we have lines out the door and a wait list that often extends 2+hours. We have a large team operating day and night serving guests. Almost half of which are casual staff.
And now all casual staff have been told that there are zero hours for us for at least the next four weeks.
The restaurant is operating with half the usual amount of staff and at a quarter usual capacity. Only full timers have hours and even then they’ve been cut drastically.
I have no idea where to go for work, I’ve been in hospo my whole working life.
How do you survive in the service industry when there’s no one to serve?
