On Wednesday 18th March, after the no more than 100 rule was enforced by the government, I was one of 40 staff who was fired from the restaurant I worked at. 40 staff in one single moment. I had worked there for four years, and I was sent an email that afternoon stating that I had been completely terminated. I lost every single one of my shifts for the week, including the one that I had scheduled for that evening. My closest friends all worked there, who some I considered family. Many were on visas and sponsorships that had to be cancelled by my work. They may have to return back to their home countries of Italy, Spain, France, where the pandemic is out of control. I do not know what will happen during this time, whether I will lose the house I am renting, whether I have to pull out of the Masters degree that I had started studying this year. The uncertainty is the worst part right now.
