Covid-19 means no buisness as usual. First there were restrictions on how many people could be in a licensed venue, reducing the capacity then enforcing a 1 person every 4 square meters. This means shifts were cut, staff were layed-off and wages were reduced. Now we are going into a lockdown – the government demands the closure of all pubs, cafes and non-essential services early next week. As a casual bartender there is simply no working from home option nor is there any annual/sick leave accrued. Us casual workers and hospitality workers feel left behind. We require our weekly income. I hope the government can follow the UK’s leadership and pay hospitality and casual workers 80% of their salary. We are doing it tough here.
