As of last week, we had to cut down to one shift per person per week with limited patrons allowed in the venue. This, coupled with strong recommendations against going out, meant my work has lost several thousand dollars this week.
As of today, we are under forced closure by the Australian Government until further notice. This will mean a loss of job for 8 casuals (myself included) and the forced leave of 5 full-timers, at the drop of scomos hat. None of us currently receive benefits from the government, and all of us will struggle to find other work.
The forced closure of all bars will be reviewed monthly by the government, but even if it ceases after the minimum time of one month only, my work will have made a 6 figure loss. This is not something, as a small business, they are likely to recover from.
