Business was already going slow before the virus had become a factor as they overestimated the turnovers they’d do in Melbourne. Upon working as a pastry chef I was promised full time hours during the interview. For the first week I had at least 20-30 hours but as the weeks went by, hours was cut off. Since I am a casual, that means all the full-time staff was guaranteed the promised hours and I was constantly having hours cut back the night before the shift started.
4 hours a week isn’t enough to put food on the table let alone pay living costs. Tomorrow will be the last trading day and will remain close until this virus clears up, but even then I will need to find another job to make ends meet. As for now, I’ll have no income coming in.
